In the book of Romans, the apostle Paul writes to Christian slaves living in the epicenter of the most powerful empire in world history. Economic and social class distinctions virtually locked people in their places in society and emperor worship dominated every large city throughout the empire. The cultural fabric of the city of Rome had succumb to an escalation of sexual and spiritual debauchery and violence. It was to these people Paul writes one of the most practical letters of the new testament regarding Christian thought and conduct.
