SARAH JAROSZ

  • l2 church

Undercurrent, Sarah Jarosz’s latest release, is a creative landmark for Jarosz, she's been making music for most of her life.  Growing up in Wimberley, Texas, she began singing in early childhood. Receiving a mandolin for Christmas when she was nine years old, she worked tirelessly to master the instrument, and learned to play guitar and clawhammer banjo along the way.  When she was 11, she performed at her first bluegrass festival; over the next few years, she gained an impressive reputation as a young phenom on the festival circuit, absorbing a world of traditional influences while honing her own highly original songwriting sensibility.

"From an early age, I've had a strong desire to create music," Jarosz states.  "I was also fortunate to be surrounded by older, accomplished musicians who were my mentors. From the very beginning, all of my heroes looked out for me and challenged me in the best ways.  It was great being raised in music that way.  I always felt completely supported, and I think that that attitude affected the way I approach music now."

Undercurrent is a sublimely resonant song cycle anchored around a haunting quartet of songs written and performed solo by the artist: "Early Morning Light," "Everything To Hide," "Take Another Turn" and "Jacqueline."  The album features several numbers co-written by Jarosz with a variety of collaborators who also contributed to the recordings.

THE LITURGISTS GATHERING

  • L2 Church
Michael & Lisa Gungor and Mike McHargue (Science Mike)

Michael & Lisa Gungor and Mike McHargue (Science Mike)

The Liturgists exists to create room at the table for the spiritually homeless and frustrated.

They started with occasional, small events and recorded liturgies. Then somewhat accidentally launched the popular, globally-recognized The Liturgists Podcast. Since then they’ve encountered thousands of people who have a longing for spirituality in the Christian tradition, but who don't feel welcome or included in today's Church.

Today, they’re trying the next logical step: The Liturgists Gathering. It's a way for us to help these people find each other, and in doing so form vibrant community.

When you attend The Liturgists Gathering, you'll meet other people on the same journey to know God while living lives of love and acceptance. Everyone is welcome–all races, genders, orientations, all shapes, sizes, and shades of humanity. It's the perfect place to go if you can't find a church that fits, or if you're a minister looking to understand why so many people are hesitant to seek out Christian community.

The Liturgists Gathering is a safe place to have honest discussions about doubts, hopes, fears, and faith. A place where no question is off limits, but you can find a burgeoning community of people who will welcome you with all your strangeness.  A place where the unlikely gather around a table and find they belong.

Science Mike, and Michael and Lisa Gungor will be a part of this gathering, and will lead conversations about mind-blowing topics through the lenses of science, art, and faith. They will also lead a communal time of worship, lead by Michael and Lisa (and a string trio).

Most of all, we'll get to know each other, and in doing so realize that we're never alone–that there are other people out there with these questions, and this longing to know God.

Review the schedule for this two day event, then purchase tickets at the link below, and be sure to listen to the latest episodes of The Liturgists Podcast.

BAPTISM

BAPTISM

  • l2 church

Christian baptism is one of two ordinances that Jesus instituted for the church. Just before His ascension, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20). These instructions specify that the church is responsible to teach Jesus’ word, make disciples, and baptize those disciples.

If you are in need of more information on baptism or would like to be baptized, we ask that you fill out the form below and we will reach out and schedule a time to meet with you to discuss the next steps toward fulfilling this ordinance.

Forgetful People, Faithful God - Joshua Study

  • l2 church

For: Women of L2
Duration: 11 weeks
Time: Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, Feb 16th
Teacher: Molly Frederick and Katie Lehman
Location: L2 Church
Sign-Up Deadline: February 12th

The book of Joshua presents the ways in which God fulfills his promises to the people of  Israel through the establishment of the promise land.  The book recounts Israel's cynical patterns of obedience and disobedience as the complete formation of Israel is established.

Join us during this 11 week study to widen your understanding of God's character and your own in the midst of transition as we witness Israel's cycle of both obedience and disobedience as they were entering the Promised Land. We'll examine how God fulfilled his promises to his chosen people from the mess they made by following the ways of the people around them, what that period of Israel's past means to us today, and how a fuller understanding of God's character helps us to better understand our own.

Sign up for this study below, and either Molly & Katie will reach out to you with more details.

Redemption Class

  • l2 church

The next Redemption Classes will held February 21, 28, and March 6, 2016 after each Sunday service. This class is a prerequisite for membership at L2, but is also for anyone interested in learning more about our three-phased approach to facilitate growth and maturity.

The Deets:

  • When: After 9 a.m. Sunday service on February 21, 28, and March 6
  • Where: L2 Foyer
  • Why: For those interested in membership, or who just want to get to know L2.
  • Cost: Free. We will provide lunch and childcare during each class

Class 1 - Bible

Nancy Pearcey defined a person's "worldview" as a "mental map that tells us how to navigate the world effectively." We each have one whether we've considered or spent an time on it - simply because a human being cannot function without some way to interpret himself/herself and the world. We believe that all Christians are to diligently and intelligently apply themselves to know, understand, and apply the scripture in order to live out the Christian faith in everyday life - not simply the things that we do in church. In that sense, we believe that we are to have a world view that comes from scripture rather than the world For most people - even many Christians that is a very different understanding and use of scripture.

Class 2 - Self

This phase is intended to assist you in better understanding yourself in light of what the scripture has to say - about you.  The Bible actually defines each of us totally uniquely rather than merely as men or women, spiritual or unspiritual, powerful or weak.  This is one off the most attractive yet oftentimes missed aspects of Christianity.  The Bible is typically viewed as an ancient writing that tells us some historical stories and talks about spiritual things Yet, it is full of practical instruction that provides great insight into our true identity.

Class 3 - Mission

This is actually where the rubber meets the road and yet it is oftentimes the area in which we are the most confused and/or disoriented.  As you learn the scripture, you will inevitably  come to understand yourself in a completely new way - your masculinity or femininity, your relational landscape, your career, station in life, hobbies, etc. - all are like brushstrokes on a canvas that paint the portrait of who you really are - completely unique from anyone else that has ever lived, is living now, or will live in the future.  But discovering that in-and-of-itself is not enough.  As you continue to learn the scripture, you also learn what God has to say about you and what "your" faith uniquely requires of you and the promise of God - through the work of the Holy Spirit to attend those efforts.  Accordingly, we believe that each of us has things to do in this life that no one else can do but us - that is "your mission" not the mission that you adopt from church program and function.

Please sign up below and we will contact you with more information.
